Process

Diagnostic evaluation and regular follow-up appointments with a Sports Psychiatrist, with the goal of first relieving mental health symptoms and restoring function, and later achieving optimal mental health and performance.

Using a thorough psychiatric interview process, an individualized diagnosis and treatment plan is created for you, with special attention given to nutrition, physical activity, and lifestyle. Laboratory and other diagnostic tests may be ordered.

Treatment options include medication and psychotherapy, delivered from the initial consultation and over subsequent follow-ups. Psychotherapy approaches include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), CBT for insomnia (CBT-i), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), positive psychotherapy, and others.

Frequently Asked Questions

I treat athletes at all levels and stages of careers — amateur or professional, early career to retired.

The word athlete is defined broadly. It includes individuals in non-traditional sports such as parkour and extreme sports athletes, dancers and other performers, physical actors and artists, and anyone in high-intensity and physically demanding fields. It also includes coaches and instructors, who are often former athletes and performers themselves. In other words, anyone in the sport and performance arena can benefit.

Individuals who are not in the above categories but are athletic, fitness-oriented, and holistic in their strategy to mental health, may find value in my overall approach and are welcome in my separate practice for non-athletes at rhianaroquemd.com.

I only treat patients who are 18 years and older.

Having spent many years in dance and combat sports (grappling, boxing, kickboxing), I have deeper understanding of the challenges athletes face in these fields.

Currently accepting Blue Shield, Anthem Blue Cross, Aetna, and Carelon through CA and NV. For other insurance providers, a Superbill can be provided if your insurance coverage has out-of-network benefits. A separate tier also exists for cash pay (non-insurance).

Generally, initial appointments are 60 to 120 minutes, while follow-ups are 30 to 60 minutes. Please send a message for rates. I offer discounts and pre-paid follow-up packages. Please inquire here.

For those not utilizing insurance, all fees are to be paid at the time of the appointment through credit card.

In accordance with my medical licenses and state laws, the patient must be located in either California or Nevada at the time of the appointment.
